Revisiting The Jazz Singer, with Peter Krausz

The release of Al Jolson’s smash hit film The Jazz Singer (1927) is renowned as the moment that started the transition to sound: a seminal point in world film history. A pristine copy of the film is now available on line, and on 25 February film critic Peter Krausz will present a webinar to discuss the film as a game changer in Hollywood silent cinema, the transition to sound, the impact on the fluidity of cinema, and the impact of the film around the world.

The webinar will be more enjoyable if you watch the film first, which you can do from the Wikipedia page for the film. The trailer is here.

The original webcast was on Sunday 25 February, at 2pm

The recording of the webinar is at https://youtu.be/iIqQsCQkrco
