Last September, the NFSA offered Friends a special Behind-the-Scenes Tour of their digitisation facilities at the Acton headquarters. It was a very successful event, and we are pleased that the NFSA has now offered us a similar tour, this time of some of its storage facilities at Mitchell.
The tour will include (as time permits):
- the warehouse, which is the staging area for incoming acquisitions and large vintage equipment
- the warehouse sorting room where staff work on large acquisitions - with a chat about the accessioning processes
- the nearby vaults where the NFSA's Preservation collection is held - film, video, audio discs and tapes, and the documentation collection comprising memorabilia, costumes, posters, publicity and artefacts.
Note that:
- the tour will start at Mitchell, at 10-12 Baillieu Court
- participants should wear comfortable shoes, be able to walk up and down some stairs, and, given the vaults can be cool, wear something with sleeves to keep warm
This is a special, members-only event comprising a one-hour tour from 10.30 to 11.30am, followed by a simple morning tea of tea/coffee and bickies, finishing around noon.
ONLY 10 MEMBERS CAN BE ACCEPTED FOR THIS TOUR SO BOOK QUICKLY IF YOU ARE INTERESTED!
Date: Monday, 20 February at 10.30am - 12 noon (for morning tea and tour)
Price: $5 : Please book through this TryBooking link. (You can also find the link under Events/News on our website.)
We are grateful to the NFSA for offering this special members event, and are sure those of you who are lucky enough to attend will enjoy this special peek behind the scenes.
