We were very pleased at the response when we asked, some time ago, for expressions of interest about a field trip to visit the Salvation Army’s Limelight Studio, the oldest surviving film studio in Australia.
Together with the Salvation Army’s curator Lindsay Cox, we were arranging a few visits in groups of ten, when Covid struck again, and all visits were cancelled.
We are hoping to reinstate this plan shortly. So don’t think we’ve forgotten! In the meantime, there is a great deal of information on the internet about this historic studio (sometimes called the Limelight Department). For example: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Limelight_Department

CALL FOR EXPRESSIONS OF INTEREST
The Salvation Army’s role in the history of cinematography in Australia is outstanding. Its epic Soldiers of the Cross was shown in 1900, and in 1901 when the Army was commissioned to record the birth of the Australian Commonwealth in film.
JOIN US for a tour of the historic Salvation Army Museum and Limelight Studios, built on the roof of the Salvation Army’s heritage building .
WHEN: TBA
WHERE: 69 Bourke Street, Melbourne (opposite Pellegrini’s).
WHO: 10 places at a time are available for Friends and supporters of the NFSA. We expect multiple visits.
COST: Free (donations will be collected on site and are appreciated)
DURATION: 1-2 hours.

**Please indicate if there are any days in September when you cannot come. Visits will most likely take place at 2pm. In due course, you will be offered a date, which you can confirm.
There are some seats, and no stairs.
